Day 5: Bootcamp focus on Abdomen & Back

Some recruits appeared to overwork their necks yesterday in a couple of counterbalances to backbends. So this morning we took the time to deconstruct the pose and focus on strengthening the abdomen while minimising the use of the neck.

Bringing awareness to the abdomen and holding the ‘crunch’ position, recruits stayed there until they had adjusted the neck. Spirit told me when she used jalandara bandha, that her abdomen couldn’t be strong anymore. That’s the point Spirit – the neck muscles make you think you are doing the pose, but they are overcompensating.

Then it was over to the low ropes to use that awareness combined with the strength of arms to lift legs up the wall.

Team was well worked out and well warmed up!
